Back after the shocking fall from season 4 I felt like I had something to prove to myself. I had to prove to myself that everything that happened in season 3 wasn't just a fluke and that my training and mindset has been effective in the past. So after going back to some old training methods and learning more about having a competitive mindset I felt much more prepared and relaxed going into season 5. The show made sure to highlight my issue with balance obstacles and I was a bit timid on it but managed to clear the course.
Being back in familiar territory I knew I had to clear the course in order to secure my slot in the National Finals. No changes were made to the front half of the course so thankfully no real issues there. The back half had some new obstacles that were challenging but my preparation got me through them no problem. I was so excited I even did a side flip after completing the next to last obstacle before the spider climb! I much prefer the 30 foot spider climb compared to the 30 foot cargo net!
My first time competing in Las Vegas since ANW decided to build their own version of the 4 staged course. Being in this environment I felt a little more intimidated than I did when I was in Japan. This caused me to doubt myself and be more timid in my approach to the obstacles. The Jumping Spider had a very short run up and awkward transition to the trampoline. I didn't get enough of a bounce and I came up short at the entrance to the hallway. Although I considered my first half of the season a success I was still far from my season 3 performance.
